Poland – Top Business Travel Destination
Central Europe and Poland, being the largest
country in the region, have been more and more popular amongst business
travelers. According to research conducted in the recent years, almost
30% of all visitors to Poland
are business travelers, including conference, congress and trade fair
participants. Business travel accounting for some 4,5 million
visitors constitutes the largest segment in the overall incoming travel
to Poland.
The upcoming EURO 2012 Football Championships present a special
opportunity for the authorities and the travel industry to take
advantage of expected rise in visitor numbers during the event. New infrastructure
is under construction, including new hotels and congress venues. There
are already 8 Convention Bureaus in Poland’s biggest
cities. Polish Conference and Congress Association (PCCA), the
organisation of some 80 companies and individuals – hoteliers and
PCO’s (Professional Congress Organisers), lobbies for the
development of the Meeting Industry.

EFAPCO AT ST. PETERSBURG
In July 2008 the Board of the European
Federation of Associations of Professional Conference Organisers EFAPCO
was invited to St.Petersburg to discuss possibilities of organizing
more international events in Russia. After the visit,
the president of EFAPCO, Nicolas Le Brun, said: “Our first
meeting in a country not being a EU member was very satisfying, as representatives
of St.Petersburg that we had met at major meetings industry events in Europe showed great determination to establish
their own PCO organisation.” The idea of establishing a working
relationship with Russia
came about as a result of the successful IIIrd General Meeting and
EFAPCO Congress in Warsaw
in January 2008. Poland
was represented by Irena Sokolowska, first vicepresident of EFAPCO,
president of Polish Conference and Congress Association (PCCA). Le Brun
added: “ Our main goals are strengthening of Europe
as the world’s leading congress destination, raising professional
standards and gaining legal and political recognition by the EU. We
have learned much about business tourism in Russia and gained new
friends in St.Petersburg. I look forward with hope to receiving their
response to our proposition of establishing a new business
relationship”. EFAPCO is a non-profit organisation seated in Brussels. EFAPCO
complements the national activities of its members, giving the
PCO’s a platform to voice their opinions and concerns.
